An essay on what we do
A website is a room your team has to live in.
When an organisation commissions a website, the launch day gets all the attention. But the real test arrives months later, when a campaign officer needs to publish an urgent appeal, a volunteer coordinator wants to change an event page, or a trustee asks why the donate button has quietly broken. That is where we want our work to hold up.
TORCHBOX LTD is a company registered in Bristol. We plan, design and build content-managed websites and the editorial tools behind them, and we take a particular interest in organisations whose purpose matters more than their marketing budget.
We start with the people who edit.
Before we draw a single screen, we want to understand who will be publishing, how often, and what gets in their way. A content system should map to how a team really works — its approvals, its languages, its seasonal campaigns — not the other way round.
We prefer plain, durable tools.
We lean toward open, well-documented technology that another developer could pick up later. Accessibility is part of the build, not a review at the end. Pages should load quickly on an old phone on a poor signal, because that is how many people will meet your cause.
We stay for the after.
Launch is the middle of the story. We would rather agree on how a site will be looked after — updates, training, small improvements — than hand over a zip file and disappear.
